A Love Affair…

I store my old Polaroids in microfilm boxes in a purse on a shelf under my desk.

Every once in a while I pull them out.

They bring back memories from not so long ago but feel like they are from a different lifetime.

They have their own distinct smell.

They have their own distinct feel.

They are a bit of magic, an instant frozen within white borders.

I’ve always had a love affair with instant photos.

Booth Beauty…

If you know me at all, you know there is a special place reserved in my heart for Photobooths.
You will know that in 2009, I showed work at the International Photobooth Convention.
You will know that my last quarter at OSU I didn’t step foot in the photo lab because I was shooting my entire Sr. Show in a Photobooth.
Below are some test shots I took in different booths, when the chemistry wasn’t quite right.
For one reason or another I saved the images.
As frustrating as it was to not be able to make work on the days they were shot, they remind me of the beauty and mystery and magic that comes with chemical photography.

2011 – a year in review

In a year’s time I’ve been engaged, to South Korea, able to assist an AMAZING photographer, not engaged, reunited with the best friends a girl could ever ask for, sad, happy, and basically every other emotion under the sun. I wrote to my friend and told him my life is not at all like I expected it would be… but if it were just as I imagine it should be I’d be terribly terribly bored. Life is unexpected 99% of the time… and when that 1% of the time rolls around where things fall perfectly into place it is the BEST feeling. Maybe 2012 will have a few more of those 1% moments… if not it will still be full of a million wonderfully unexpected moments that keep me guessing :)

This year I am most thankful for:

A drive that keeps me reaching for Ohio.
Sunshine and rain and Rainn Wilson.
Knowledge that heartache does not last forever.
A little voice on the other end of the phone, who, when I say, “Hi Cooper!” responds, “Me-maw it’s Nent Nell!”
The fact that even when it feels like there is no possible way there could be a tomorrow, tomorrow comes.
Hope in the many possibilities that will create the next year of my life :)

Miss Dianna allowed us to have pizza on Thanksgiving Day because we were going to have a big family dinner the day after :)

I hate the cold.
I am really not looking forward to winter.
In my book… snow is a four letter word.
But today… today it is snowing like mad… and I cannot get the smile off my face.
The radio is playing fabulous music.
My work seems to be doing itself.
And… I get to wear blue barn boots with a polka-doted skirt.

Oh yes… and I looked like a snowman when I got to work today… perfect!

May your inner Grinch remain burried on such a perfect day :)
